You say this is "obvious". Would you also describe this as a typical process of propaganda for central planners gaslighting a greater population?

The idea the earth is a spinning ball and that people stick to it because of a hypothetical magnetic like force called "Gravity" is an extreme claim.

Did I expect people to immediately accept it?

    No.

Did I expect at least a reasonable level of honest investigation, given the ideology of this board and the people who push globe theory?

    Yes.

The earth being flat is stupid obvious... when you open yourself to the possibility of it being true.

I've not insulted anyone for disagreeing... only for giving me contempt without prior investigation to even basic flat earth proofs.

Did you conciously choose to make fun of my claim whilst ignoring all my supporting arguments?

    Yes. Yes you did.

You know what you're not bringing to the thread?

One single shred of proof of the globe.

    Earth's curvature not apparent:

A good lie mixes true statements with false ones. If it is true that the mainstream view of the earth as a massive ball of matter on whose surface people live is false, then any theory offering an alternative explanation will be true insofar as it calls the mainstream view bullshit. And this will be one of the greatest "selling points".
If you want to do effective manipulation, you will have to use at least two good lies - the falseness of the one will legitimize the other in some people's eyes (and the other way around). You'll have converts who go from one lie to the other. You'll have movements upholding one lie or the other. And all of this conflict, chaos will create a good show -

Maybe the "ancient" view of the earth as flat was such a lie - and not very ancient - which allowed the other lie to become mainstream.

Thus a melonhead worth his salt will "flip the script" every couple centuries (or decades), whenever trust in authorities is starting to crumble.

Good post... for demonstrating you still live in the matrix.

A world where nothing is provable, everything is abstract, nothing can be known, everything is manipulation..

The principles on which flat earth rests (non-curving water, density, buoyancy, horizon rising to meet the eye), are demonstrably true, and the alleged curvature of the earth is demonstrably false.

But no, you wanna talk about melonheads and lies within lies and so on, completely ignoring reality as it is.

How for below level the horizon drops depends both on altitude and earth radius, yeah? This is another case of you have to do the math to know whether the effect should be noticeable with naked eye observation.

By my reckoning the effect is so small that you can easily not notice it. You can do the calculation and see if you agree. However, I am excited to report that it is large enough to measure with simple means. If you are careful you could even estimate the radius fairly well.

If I were to see a video where the horizontal angle is carefully measured at cruising altitude, and they demonstrate that it is precisely level, rather than deviating say 2 degrees from level, then my interest in the subject will have been piqued.

Cody did this experiment some months ago

    Welcome back by the way!

The answer follows from the post.
If good lies require such a "mechanism", than this will be a typical process of an elite which is successful.

    Cody's Telescope Experiment replied to:

Of course, Cody's experiment that 'proves' the globe is the most seen and most popular video - Video proofs that the curvature is not there like the one I posted are only for 'crazy flattards'!!

    My quick rendition:

This is Dave on a flight to somewhere, 10,000 metres above sea level:

(Specific time within a collection of lots of different flat earth material, some from shills like Jeranism and Math Powerland), but the specific animation segment goes further than what I've drawn here.

The math checks out. At 30 mile distance, the bottom 500 feet of the city should be obscured and it isn't! But ...

How do we know the video is really taken from 30 miles away? The relative position of the buildings make it look like the video was filmed from the Toronto Islands, the shoreline of which is not more than 2 miles away. Are... are these people lying? Gasp!

You may think that we are harsh on the flat earth claim because we are biased against believing in it. It seems though that you carry the opposite bias, and are not scrutinizing the evidence nearly as hard as you should.

    Woops, wrong video.

You can see the Rogers Dome again to the left of the tower but it's blurry due to atmospheric conditions.

Same channel, just two clicks away.

I'm sure those blinkers that only allow you to see things put directly infront of you are real comfy. ;)

You drew that plane the equivalent of 1000s of km up. Since it's all the same to you "no matter" the relative sizes involved, why not say it should be impossible to see the horizon 5 ft off the ground?

Hey man, good point. I've been going through some of this, off and on, but mostly just joked so far. I have nothing against you personally, would be nice to get along. The My Nationalist Pony stuff was great.

Here's the thing: The whole "You retard sheep, stop living in the Matrix" bit isn't really working for me. It crosses a personal boundary. If we can talk about this stuff without that kind of stuff, great. If not, we can act out the "tragic hero heckled by ignorant rube" thing, or have a row, or whatever. No hard feelings either way unless you escalate further.

That said... What do you think of this?

    Photobucket | http://photobucket.com/gallery/user/astrobrant2/media/bWVkaWFJZDo5MDY5NTU5OQ==/?ref=

    -Octans visibility

    -Day and night errors

    -Geographic distances

    -Sun altitudes

    -Lunar eclipses

    -Equinox sunset azimuth

    -Star paths

    -Impossible illumination

    -Orbital mechanics

    -Sun visibility errors

That's around ten different points of contradiction in the flat earth theory. Surely, since you say this is THE most important thing in the world to know, you don't mind going through the points for me. Maybe you have a different flat earth theory, I dunno.

I watched a couple of your YouTube videos. I don't know enough about the math/science involved to say anything one way or another. I'm willing to accept that I really can't know one way or another at this point in time (lack of expertise/equipment for direct verification) so I'm just running on heuristics and semi-understood probabilities here.

You're missing something fundamental about the fringe community. It is not segregated according to topic. The fringe content generators and the audience are largely overlapping, and certainly the normie public views them all in more or less one bucket. Flat Earth is not just a physics theory; it crosses into religion, politics and conspiracy as well, in order to explain why and how the truth has been suppressed. E.g. see DoomPony's statement "This is the most important thing for anyone to know."

It is actually a fantastically effective method for rhetorically dismissing a huge range of non-mainstream viewpoints that threaten TPTB: "Oh, he's a Flat-Earther." Or just bring it up in innocent juxtaposition to the discreditee, and let the viewers' minds do the associative work.

I've been trying to be polite but it seems you are going to perceive contempt regardless of what I do. You aren't willing to learn basic physics.

"Basic physics" in this sense means "muh textbook".

I posted proof that buildings do not go behind the curvature of the earth across standing water.

    Earth is like, 70% water.

So how can it be spherical?

Using a thought terminating cliche ("basic physics" / "the laws of physics" etc) just means "what I was taught as prescriptive truth".

It doesn't mean it actually is truth.

In regards to being 5ft off the ground, yes, of you had your vision retricted to a very narrow field of view, then you would see the horizon on flat earth but not globe earth.

The plane windows are a useful placeholder for 'something that only allows you to look out horizontally, but not down upon the sphere below.'

This is being tested by Rob Skiba of testing the globe who is making virtual scale model replica of the heights acvhiebed by the balloon launched in the videos I posted. When they are done they can be compared like for like against what the experiment actually showed.

Bone flour, that's quite a list, and probably exhaustive for even the most hardened FE'r. I will look for you, but in the meantime, consider trying to rationalise the long distance proof in my most recent posts (along with other innumerable long distance proofs that demonstrate the falsity of the earths curvature...) because regardless of day or night errors, the battle is fought on Curvature. The earth must have curvature to be a sphere. You can fudged and argue about everything else, invoking the magic hocus pocus of 'Gravity' to account for spinning atmospheres and all this nonsense, but simple line of sight across standing water cannot be faked.

I'm using a similar heuristic as what you described earlier in the thread. An idea is worth considering more deeply after its proponent has demonstrated that it can withstand some basic scrutiny. I don't have the time to go off researching every alternate theory that someone mentions. Do understand.

And, you know... Literally the whole internet is just two clicks away :D

I am now fairly convinced regarding the video of Toronto, that things are visible which should be obscured. Intriguing! Wonder what I'm not understanding.

The rest of the material has some glaring problems though. Mainly they all seem to lack basic concepts around the mathematical / geometrical workings of perspective. The 1.5h documentary uses an incorrect model of the earth/plane system.

Note that if flat earth were true, the size of lands would differ dramatically (or be farther apart) - northern lands would be far smaller and southern lands far bigger. Everyone living more in the south could compare travel times (by road/land in one, by ship or plane in the other case). Undersea cable would have a different length.

If they were farther apart, then time of sunrise and sunset would be different on the coasts then what the mainstream view tells. This again, could be easily measures by people.
